Few coloured gemstones combine vibrancy and wearability quite like rubelite, and this 2.12 ct loose natural tourmaline brings both in a well-proportioned cushion cut. The rounded corners and open facets make for a smooth, comfortable outline, and at roughly 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale the stone is tough enough for a ring or pendant when given a protective setting. Because tourmaline is doubly refractive, light moves through it with depth and a soft, shifting glow that sets it apart from singly refractive gems. Rubelite is the pink-to-red variety of tourmaline, and natural stones of this size are a rewarding find for collectors and custom jewellery clients.
